You learned from your professors that a muon is an elementary particle similar to the electron, with the same electric charge and spin, but with a much greater mass.

As with other leptons, the muon is not thought to be composed of any simpler particles, it is a fundamental particle.

The muon is an unstable subatomic particle with a mean lifetime of 2.2 μs.

Muon decay almost always produces at least three particles, which must include an electron of the same charge as the muon and two types of neutrinos.

 

Muons have a mass of 1.88 × 10^(−28) kg, which is approximately 206 times that of the electron.

 

Muons were discovered studying cosmic radiation. About 10000 muons reach every square meter of the earth's surface a minute.

The energy of the electron: E = mc^2  

 

E = 8.13 × 10^(-14) J

 

The frequency of the photon inside the electron:

 

E = hf   

f = 1.22 × 10^20 Hz
