Electron–positron annihilation occurs when an electron and a positron collide.

At low energies, the result of the collision is the annihilation of the electron and positron, and the creation of two energetic photons.

Faraday predicted a mysterious, invisible “electrotonic state” surrounding the magnet, what we would today call a field and changes in this electrotonic state are what cause electromagnetic phenomena.
